If you don't know me, I work at a Pizza Hut where I waitress. We were extremely busy today, as we usually are on Saturdays. I decided to be nice and run the other waitress's food to a table. On my way (keep in mind our resturant is very tiny and cramped) I accidentally spilled a cup of sauce all over my shirt, apron, floor, and a little bit trinkled onto a child's bag. I apologized a thousand times, and tried as fast as i could to clean up the mess. the mother of the child. was. insanely. pissed.
When I came back with napkins to clean up the mess she was like "excuse me, you spilled sauce ALL over my daughter's purse. It's brand new. You DESTROYED it. It's ruined now." she would not stop even though it was clearly an accident and her daughter didn't seem that bothered by it. Mind you it was a ten dollar cloth bag that can be washed clean, this is not my point however. Mangement gave her ten dollars off her bill, which basically paid for a new purse that she so rudely demanded. She then went on to say that she was not going to be paying, at all. She loudly (and we were busy at the time) said it was bullshit and she shouldn't have to pay. My RGM stuck to her guns and told her politely ten dollars was all she could give her off.
Now, is it just me, or was this completely out of line for her as a mother? I know what happened was pretty bad, but it was truly an accident, so my question is, was this right? By her acting this way she's showing her children it is NOT okay to make mistakes, ever. And if you do, well then tough shit on you, you're aloud to be publicly humiliated for them. So I mean, what do any of you think? Any thoughts?
